The Brassica plants that second grade students planted in class have bloomed and provided our curious scientists with a perfect way to learn about pollination. Students used cotton buds to transfer the pollen from one plant to another and watched a Magic School Bus video involving pollination as well as a short video to help identify the parts of a plant. Another lesson involved planting parts of a potato plant that had shoots coming from it – the boys learned that potatoes are actually considered part of the stem of the plant. They are observing how plants can be cultivated from stems, seeds, and cuttings. The boys have planted lettuce seeds in the Geodesic Dome (greenhouse) on campus.
Thank you, gentlemen, for your nurture and care!
