In a persuasive writing unit kindergarten boys are learning that writers can change the world. At a LS assembly they introduced a new community service project to the Lower School students:
We read the book "The Day The Crayons Quit" and we got an idea. Kindergarten is collecting old crayons and old markers. We are trying to save the environment by recycling them. We will send the crayons to the Crayon Initiative. They will melt them and make new ones. We want to share the joy of crayons with other people in hospitals and doctor's offices. We will send the markers to Crayola to be recycled. When you clean out your desks, please put broken or old crayons and dried out markers in these boxes. There is one box for crayons and one for markers. You can also bring them from home.
Great job, Bear Cubs! Head of Lower School Paris McLean said, "Boys have the opportunity to lead at every grade level. We are so grateful to our youngest HAWKS for bringing this wonderful community service initiative to Lower School!"
