On Tuesday, June 9, 30 young men graduated from Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart. The 18th Commencement Exercises were celebrated virtually for the first time in school history. A live broadcast of the ceremony aired on YouTube.
Monsignor Thomas J. Mullelly delivered an inspirational homily and Headmaster Rik Dugan welcomed guests and addressed the graduating class with a prayer and speech, "Today I stand before you to congratulate you, to remind you have succeeded and prevailed, to let you know that you are our hope and to remind you that you are loved." Dugan continued, "You are ready and prepared to be creative, compassionate and courageous leaders of a just society."
Graduating eighth-grader Hudson Aton was chosen to give the speech on behalf of the Class of 2020, "Today is an extraordinary day – Carpe Diem! As Mr. Dugan would say. Every day we have watched you, Mr. Dugan, from Morning Handshake to Headmaster's Seminar. We will take your example with us. We have collectively learned and achieved, especially during our final year as PASH scholars, artists, scientists, writers, mathematicians, athletes, leaders--and gentlemen."
The recipients of Sacred Heart Honors were then announced:
- In the spirit of Goal I, a personal and active faith in God, this honor was presented to Deacon Bowne.
- In the spirit of Goal II, a deep respect for intellectual values, this honor was presented to Sean-Winston Luo.
- In the spirit of Goal III, a social awareness that impels to action, this honor was presented to Julian Perello.
- In the spirit of Goal IV, the building of community as a Christian value, this honor was presented to Derrick Melvin.
- In the spirit of Goal V, personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom, this honor was presented to Leo Martinez.
Head of Middle School Kathleen Humora conferred the diplomas to each member of the graduating class. The graduates were invited to campus for a celebratory drive-through procession on campus. Cars were decorated and the time-honored tradition of the graduation fountain jump was reimagined!
