From the Director of Admission

February to me is a time to celebrate the present and look forward to new beginnings. Whether through a Chinese New Year Celebration lunch for our middle schoolers or our Second Grade Chinese New Year Banquet which completes the class' study of China, to a one-week-old lamb making a visit to Kindergarten bringing awe and amazement of the preciousness of new life or the culmination of hard work in the successful production of our musical; our students are celebrating in the present and excited about what the future holds. Lower and Middle School Admission Committees are in the midst of reviewing completed applications of potential new students for the fall as well. As I see our middle schoolers deep in the process of their Independent Science Projects (ISP) and our first graders tending the live crops along the Nile River erected in their classroom for their study of the Aztecs, there is joy, curiosity, and engagement in learning that reminds me of our purpose here at Princeton Academy.

We are leading a national reinvention of boys' education for a new generation of enlightened men. By our definition, a "new generation of enlightened men" is one comprised of creative, compassionate and courageous leaders of a just society. How do we do that in this day and age when the world around our boys is speeding ahead and often embroiled in turmoil? We believe first in making sure every boy in our care is seen and heard, not just by the adults on campus, but also by their peers. Helping boys to learn about themselves and in the context of how they relate to others - no matter the age - is critical in these formative years. The social and emotional development of our boys goes hand-in-hand with academic progress. We understand you need to nurture both in order to bring out the best in our students. We take to heart every day that the health and wellness of our boys are paramount and it matters.

A recent blog Boys will be… The Boys We Raise by Paul Cumbo on the National Association of Independent Schools website, articulates issues surrounding the "raising of boys" and the importance of taking on the responsibility to be proactive in this aspect of education and formation. At Princeton Academy, we embrace our responsibility to approach boys' education with head and heart. - with thought to the here and now as well as the future as our graduates head off to high school as young men prepared for their next journey.

We invite you to keep learning about Princeton Academy. Engage with our community if you have not already. Visit our campus, meet our faculty and our school leadership team. For those families who have completed admission applications, we will be sending out our priority round of decisions on Monday, March 5. For those families offered admission for their son, we will provide plenty of opportunities to connect with community members as you make an enrollment decision.

Enjoy this short month of February as we look toward spring and new beginnings to come.

Best,

Jennifer Sheppard
