Dear Princeton Academy Community,
I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy, safe and well.
I write today with exciting news about the upcoming inaugural year of the One School model at Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart. Since commencing our strategic planning process four years ago, it has become clear that the opportunity to further synergize our Lower School and Middle School divisions will enable Princeton Academy to best fulfill its mission and realize our shared vision. Our work over the years has been devoted to creating meaningful collaboration among our students, educators and families across all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 8. This inspiring evolution has provided greater alignment between grade levels and supports the increased success of our students as they advance in their K-8 journey.
One School means one community, with meaningful connection between students, faculty, staff and families throughout all grades. Guided by the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria, inspired by our mission and propelled by our vision, Princeton Academy continues to innovate ways in which we can bring out the best in every boy.
With the advent of the One School model, we have created a new position of assistant head of school. This will replace our current division head positions for the Lower and Middle Schools.
It is my honor to announce the appointment of Paris McLean as Princeton Academy's assistant head of school, beginning on July 1, 2020. During his five years as head of lower school, Paris has advanced our strategic plan through his leadership of Epic Vision Pillar 1, Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Working collaboratively with team members, he propelled the development of Princeton Academy's One School Growth and Reflection program to bring out the best in our educators through our Learning Principles for Boys and the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria. He is a visionary leader with an open heart who places the boy's wellbeing at the center of every decision. Paris has designed and implemented programs to advance academic excellence, character development, wellness, social-emotional learning, and diversity, equity and inclusion at Princeton Academy. He has overseen our NJAIS five-year reaccreditation process and has served on Princeton Academy's Sacred Heart Commission on Goals self-study and action plan committees.
Paris is an alumnus of Princeton Day School (PDS) and LaSalle University. He returned to PDS upon graduating from LaSalle to teach and lead for 12 years before joining Princeton Academy as head of lower school. He received a master's degree in Education Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University where he was a Klingenstein Fellow for Private School Leadership. Paris recently completed the NAIS Fellowship for Aspiring School Heads and has represented Princeton Academy on the national and international level by presenting at the NAIS Annual Conference, the NAIS People of Color Conference, the Online Education Strategies for Independent Schools Conference, the International Boys School Coalition Conference and through various published works. Paris also leads the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Lower School Heads cohort. Please join me in congratulating Paris on his new leadership role at Princeton Academy.
Our movement to a One School model also brings about change and it is with bittersweet sentiment that I share the news that Kathleen Humora, who celebrated 20 years of service and leadership at Princeton Academy this year, will be moving on from Princeton Academy. During her time as head of middle school and science teacher at Princeton Academy, Kathy has led as the quintessential model of an Educator of the Sacred Heart. Kathy's care, understanding and support have positively influenced the lives of our students, alumni, their families, and her colleagues. As a scientist, Kathy's contribution of the Independent Science Project to Princeton Academy will always play an integral role in fostering a deep respect for intellectual values in our young men. Through her devotion to Princeton Academy's mission, Kathy has bestowed the gift of the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria upon all who have been blessed to be with her.
There are no words to capture the extraordinary impact that this Sacred Heart educator has had on countless Princeton Academy students. To honor Kathy's legacy and to preserve it for future generations, we would like to announce that plans are underway to name the Middle School Science Lab, a special learning space where Mrs. Humora has inspired so many young scientists, in her honor.
Princeton Academy will forever be home to Kathy. On behalf of the entire Princeton Academy community, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Kathy for her dedication and loyalty, her tireless efforts as an educator and administrator, and her many accomplishments. Please join me in wishing Kathy and her family heartfelt blessings in all that lies ahead.
More information regarding Princeton Academy's One School model will be shared in forthcoming communications.
With gratitude and hope, Alfred F. Dugan III Headmaster
