Admission Tips and Timelines

Sign up for a group tour

One of the best ways to determine if Princeton Academy has the educational philosophy, programs, and culture you are looking for is to see us in action, so please come for a visit! We offer group tours on Mondays and Fridays at 9:00 a.m., as well as personal tours as scheduling allows. Please call (609) 759-3053 or send us an email to find the time that suits your schedule.

Apply Online

Princeton Academy uses the Standard Application Online (SAO) through the Enrollment Management Association (EMA). Depending on the grade to which your son is applying, the requirements may differ slightly, but you will be able to track your application progress through the checklist within the SAO portal.

Observations, Conversations and Class Visits

To begin the application process, please complete the SAO Student Profile and pay the application fee. Once we receive confirmation that these have been completed, we will contact you to set up a Class Visit (Grades 2-8), arrange for on-campus assessments (K-Grade 3), and a Parent/Guardian Interview with the appropriate division head. Please note that applicants applying to Grades 4-8 are required to take the appropriate level of the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). You can learn more about the test, dates offered, and how to utilize their practice test resources at www.ssat.org. The SSAT helpline is (609) 683-4440, and Princeton Academy’s school code is 5899. If your son is applying from outside of the United States, we will accept the TOEFL Junior test in lieu of the SSAT and will require submission of a graded writing sample.

Character and personal growth are an integral part of a Princeton Academy education. Grades and test scores do not tell us the whole story of your son. The Character Skills Snapshot gives us richer holistic information and illuminates areas where we can help your son grow and thrive. For students applying to Grades 6-8, we strongly recommend they complete the Character Skills Snapshot. For students who take the SSAT, there is no extra charge for The Snapshot, and once you register for the SSAT, you will gain access to The Snapshot.

Teacher Recommendation Forms

We require recommendations from a current English and math teacher. If your child has only one classroom teacher, you may request a second recommendation from an academic teacher from the previous school year. If a student is applying to Kindergarten, only one recommendation is required. Once the recommendations are submitted through the SAO, they will be viewed only by the Admission Committee, will not be shared with parents or guardians, and become the sole property of Princeton Academy.

Transcript or Progress Report

We require two years of transcripts and/or progress reports (the current school year and one year prior). Please request a transcript from your son’s current school and ask for any standardized testing taken within the past two years to be included.

Review and Notification

Our priority admission deadline is February 1. Applicants who complete the process by the priority deadline will receive decision notification in early March. Princeton Academy accepts applications after February 1, though we cannot predict when and in which grades spaces will become available. We do encourage families to apply during the spring and early summer as we often have spaces available in various grades each year. Applications that are completed after March 10 will be notified of the Admission Committee’s decision within two weeks of the application being fully completed.
