Noted journalist and author Peg Tyre to speak at Princeton Academy

February 03, 2010

Peg Tyre, author of the New York Times best seller The Trouble With Boys: A Surprising Report Card on Our Sons, Their Problems at School and What Parents & Educators Must Do, will speak at Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, a school for boys in grades junior kindergarten through eight, on Wednesday, February 10th at 7pm.

In 2006, Ms. Tyre wrote a cover story for Newsweek titled "Boy Crisis" in which she discussed the ways boys are falling behind in school and what some schools are doing about it. The response to the article was overwhelming and inspired her to research and write The Trouble With Boys, which was published in 2008 and received the prestigious Books for a Better Life award in 2009. Tyre's book attempts to frame a discussion about education and gender in a new way, taking a serious look at what is ailing boys in school and what parents and educators can and must do to engage boys in school.

Tyre spent two decades in journalism, writing for Newsweek, the New York Times, O, The Oprah Magazine and the Columbia Journalism Review. She spent three years as an on air correspondent for CNN. She was part of a group of reporters who won a Pulitzer Prize. She was twice nominated for a National Magazine Award (the magazine industry equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize) received two Clarion Awards as well as sharing the Overseas' Press Club Ed Cunningham Prize for magazine feature writing. She was also honored by the Education Writers Association. She has discussed her stories on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, Anderson Cooper and NPR. She has lectured at Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Emory and the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. She has given the keynote address at national education events and spoken at corporate conferences. She is a frequent speaker at educational conferences, corporate events, and public and private schools around the nation. Ms. Tyre is currently a Spencer Research Fellow at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. For more information and to register to attend, please call the Office of Admission at Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart at 609-924-8143 or click here to register online.
