SPORTS RECAP: FALL 2009 SEASON

November 04, 2009

Soccer "A"
Overall, The Princeton Academy Soccer A Team experienced a successful season. Although the team's record did not necessarily reflect this success, the boys improved significantly over the course the season. The difference between the play of the first game in comparison to the final game showed talent, enthusiasm, and a team that became a cohesive group. This year the team placed second at the Lewis Invitational, losing in overtime in the championship round. Mr. Stevens was pleased with the outcome of the season. He was impressed with the sportsmanship, determination, and effort of all of the players. The team has a great deal of talent to work with next soccer season.

Soccer "B"
This year's soccer B team was a relentless crew that worked together well. The Defensemen learned to play their positions and communicate while the Halfbacks and Strikers learned to "change fields" and lead each other with good feeds to the corner. Our record was the best a B team has turned in yet, featuring solid performances against even the toughest opponents. Mr. Trowbridge looks forward to next year's squad, returning players and new faces alike.

Cross Country
The Cross Country team continued its winning ways in 2009. During the season, the runners learned to persevere through illness and injury. The team finished undefeated in league meets by out-distancing all of the main rivals such as PDS, Pennington, Chapin, Lewis, and Hun. This was no small task as the team found out that every individual's placing could impact the team results. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of this year's team was its depth. In the Princeton Charter Invitational, the team finished a close second by a scant 6 points. The focal point of the year was the Ed Scott Invitational at The Pingry School. Going against stiff competition from much larger schools, the team finished in seventh place, just ahead of the host school.
