We began our celebration of Earth Day with a special prayer service. Here is an excerpt from the service:

Earth Day Intercessions
Response: Gracious God, enlighten us and give us courage to change

For our political leaders that they continue to support the conservation of the environment. We pray to the Lord.
For an awareness of how our own lifestyles can be modified to help protect the environment. We pray to the Lord.
For the openness to learn about environmental issues and concerns. We pray to the Lord.
For an understanding and awareness of the connectedness of all of creation. We pray to the Lord.
For an understanding of what it means to be gentle with the Earth. We pray to the Lord.
For the willingness to help each other to be environmentally sensitive. We pray to the Lord.
For an awareness of the dangers to our planet from global warning. We pray to the Lord
