William E. Simon Chapel Library

View the Plans  Sacred Heart Goals and the Library

Our plan is to convert the space formerly used as the Our Lady of Princeton chapel (and currently serving as our gym) into separate library and chapel areas. Having these two spaces at the center of the academic building, Princeton Academy will have a unique space to represent the spiritual and intellectual heart of our campus.

The library will build on the "culture of reading" that has developed since the doors first opened at Princeton Academy. Encouraging the love of books at the young age of our students is key to the development of life-long learning skills.

The library facility will provide reference and periodical sections, a collection of circulating books -- both fiction and non-fiction -- for all reading levels, study nooks and book stacks. A storytelling area will be incorporated into the design to allow for group lessons and storytelling to younger students. The library will house the librarian’s office, an audio/video area and the stacks, as well as storage for laptop computers

Unlike many of today's newer libraries, computers will not be front and center. With our extensive wireless network, laptop computers can be made available for check out by students or in a class group as needed.

By converting the choir loft on the second floor, an entirely new chapel space will be created. In addition, a small Meditation Chapel will be created by extending the Librarian’s Office upward through to the second floor. This space will allow for private and small group gatherings for prayer and reflection. The area will make use of the stained glass windows currently on display in the Manor House gallery, and will comfortably seat a small group.

School-wide liturgies will be conducted in the Athletic and Convocation Center. Combined, the library and chapel space will form the intellectual and spiritual heart of our campus.

Naming rights for the new chapel library are reserved for the William E. Simon Foundation. It was William Simon's early vision of what Princeton Academy would become, along with his faith in our ability to make our dream a reality, and a commitment of challenge funds that provided the Academy with profound inspiration.
