Dear Parents,
Princeton Academy is pleased to offer a variety of summer camps and classes for boys and girls entering Pre-school through 9th grade. Our mission is to provide high interest camps and classes where students have fun while being actively engaged. Our highly motivated staff has tailored their camps and classes to give students opportunities to learn and build skills that will last a lifetime. Princeton Academy Summer Program includes the four weeks of June 11th through July 6th.
Each program is described below. Just click on the "show/hide the full description" link of a program below to learn more about it (and to download the registration forms). A brochure describing each of the programs is also available for download (pdf).
Interested parents should print out a registration form for each child attending the program. Registration forms are found on the school's website on the "For Parents" page under Summer Program. Please make sure you fill out the correct form(s) for the camp(s) your child will be attending. Please submit your registration form(s) with payment no later than May 25, 2012. Lower School Sports Camp is a coed camp that will teach our younger campers the value of sportsmanship and teamwork through a variety of indoor and outdoor sports as well as games of skill. Interested parents should print one registration form from the school's website per child and submit it with payment no later than May 25, 2012. Campers should apply sunblock prior to arriving each day. Campers should wear comfortable athletic shoes (sneakers). Flip-flops and sandals are not permitted. Campers should bring a refillable water bottle each day. All full day campers need to bring a lunch every day unless otherwise instructed. Mid-morning snack will be provided everyday for full and half day campers. After care is available from 3pm - 6pm for an additional charge and depending on enrollment. Please refer to the Lower School Sports Camp registration form for after care rates.

This camp will focus on building fundamentals from hitting and fielding to throwing and running. Athletes will learn proper techniques that they can use in game situations. Players will also play in scrimmage games where they will be able to apply these techniques to improve their game.

Students will work on basic game skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting while at the same time have fun scrimmaging and playing full court games. Students will also learn different plays that they can apply when they play casually or in a game situation.

Who's going to win the mud puddle splash competition this year? Who's going to win the steering contest? Based on how much fun we had last year when we went mountain biking during adventure camp, Coach D has decided to devote an entire week to this exciting sport. This is an entirely off campus camp in which we will be mountain biking from a new location on each day. All locations are less than a 30-minute drive from Princeton Academy. Campers need to bring a mountain bike, helmet, cycling gloves, backpack, packed lunch, sunscreen, plenty of water, and a willingness to get dirty. Drop-off is 9 and pick-up is at 3.

Designed for the beginner to advanced in each sport, the camp offers a wide variety of activities. Each day starts a new adventure as we begin at a different location and participate in a new activity. This is an entirely off campus program. All locations are less than 15 minutes from Princeton Academy. Campers need to bring the appropriate gear to each day's activity in addition to two water bottles, packed lunch, and sunscreen. Campers should come each day equipped with two quarts of water, insect repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a bagged lunch to be carried in their backpack. Campers also need to bring their own mountain bike, fishing rods, and binoculars for the respective mountain biking, fishing, and birding days. Kayaks and canoes will be rented and are included in the price of the camp. For the overnight, campers need to bring a sleeping bag, tent, change of clothes, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight, toothbrush, etc. Campers will cook dinner and breakfast at their campsite. Do you want to take your game to the next level? Do you want to improve your groundstrokes, volleys, and serve? Do you want to learn the secrets of the best tennis players in the world? Campers will be treated to videotaped analysis of their strokes so they can improve their technique. In addition, campers will have fun playing in a relaxed environment with their friends. This camp is designed for all ability levels. Court time is the fastest way to improve in tennis, so let's get out there! Players will meet each day at the tennis courts at Stuart Country Day School.

Players will work daily on the fundamentals of soccer and improving their individual skills. Game situations will be emphasized for drilling, and daily scrimmaging will feature each of the focus areas. We will have a lot of fun with frequent and good-spirited competition while gaining a better understanding of the game in all its aspects.

The sheer joy of running will be a central theme throughout the week. A mixture of base miles, hill repeats, and interval training will be included in the workouts. Athletes will learn different strategies in order to succeed in races. Fun activities like capture the flag will be incorporated into the training regimen. A film session/chalk talk session will study the techniques of the greatest runners in the world, the Kenyans and the Tarahumara Indians. A current marathoner who qualified for the Boston Marathon will be a motivational speaker. Finally, the runners will begin to keep a running journal and start the summer long "100 mile club."

The Red-Tail Class will study Chinese Kung Fu while incorporating movements and theory from arts such as Muay Thai and Western boxing. Students will also engage in martial-arts specific physical conditioning such as stretching and calisthenics. Contact is limited to careful and supervised practice of techniques; no sparring will be included.

This course introduces students to programming logic, focusing on concepts such as truth tables, variables, conditional statements, and loops. Using Scratch, a development environment creating by MIT for kid-friendly programming, students will create their own video games, which they will be able to present and share by the end of the course.

The Renaissance was a period of history in which the arts flourished. Painters, architects and craftspeople developed new techniques and inventions that are used by artists to this day. Students will learn more about the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Brunelleschi as they explore painting, drawing, textiles, murals and frescos in depth in this exciting new class.

This camp is the perfect opportunity for students who love to build. They will work with clay, wire, wood and natural objects to create realistic art in three dimensions. Knights, gargoyles and castles will be fully explored during this exciting camp.

How would you like to run your own railroad? If you have an interest in trains and would like to learn about building layouts for HO scale trains, then this is the class for you. Students will work together to plan a layout, lay down track, assemble trains, create scenery, and have some fun learning some history along the way.

Something Constructive engages children in making three-dimensional artwork. They will use wire, found objects, plaster, gauze, and paper mache to build fanciful masterpieces. The possibilities are endless, as well as the creativity.

During these exciting week(s), campers will explore the ancient relationships between prey and predator get to go stomping through streams to catch cool amphibians, hike along fields to get a glimpse of hawks and plovers, make and cook on a camp fire, and most importantly learn how to enjoy oneself in nature. Campers will concentrate on survival techniques to learn how to live in the wilderness.

This class is an introduction to building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics System. Students will practice construction and programming with the NXT intelligent brick with motors and sensors. Students learn to build robots and program them with a computer to solve challenges while learning the subtleties of input stimuli and output energies.

This is class for students that require support in both reading and writing skills. Students will go on adventures by exploring different themes each week. This class is a 4-week class with a 2-week minimum to sign up. Students are encouraged to attend all 4 weeks to gain the full benefit of the class. Instruction will take place from 8:00am until 12:00pm Monday through Friday. Snacks and breaks will be provided.

During part 1, writers will be introduced to writing in their everyday lives by exploring the topics of bodies, senses, and feelings. The topics for part 2 will be friends, others we meet, and our environment. Both weeks' activities will invite students to explore their roles as writers by helping them to find meaning in their lives. Students will keep journals, conference with teacher, and connect their art to writing. The teacher will use read-alouds to guide writers towards the transition from telling stories verbally to telling stories in writing.

Writers will reinforce their narrative and expository writing skills in their everyday lives by exploring the topics of using journals (lifebooks), zooming in on their lives through writing, using the technique of Writing Pictures, techniques for writing dialogue and descriptive setting and finding their voice in non-fiction writing. The teacher will introduce and use quality texts as springboards for students' writing. The focus of week 1 will be fun with poetry while week 2 will focus on comic book writing and exploration of newspaper article writing.
