Leadership and Gratitude

This is the time of year when giving thanks becomes a prominent theme. At Princeton Academy, we believe that gratitude and the ability of our students to express gratitude is a year-round commitment and a necessity in developing character and an open, inclusive community. Our Friday Thank Yous exemplify how our K-8 structure is intentionally designed to nurture and keep gratitude at the forefront. We describe a Princeton Academy graduate as an active citizen, lifelong learner, and spiritual individual by focusing on integral aspects: Who He Is and What He Does. Our outcomes are driven primarily by the fact that our young men are kind, empathic, humble and moral; they give back, communicate with understanding, grow in faith, and are respectful of others. Being grateful and understanding how to genuinely express gratitude is an essential component to our school mission and the development of the boys in our care. We do not take that charge lightly.

We believe that valuing and expressing gratitude is embedded in our mission to lead a national reinvention of boys' education for a new generation of enlightened men. Our world needs this now.  We also believe that to do this - to be successful in our mission - leadership matters. Transparent, empathic, visionary leadership matters. There is nothing more powerful than the example set by those in positions of leadership. At Princeton Academy this means that our leadership role-modeling starts with our Headmaster Rik Dugan. We invite prospective parents to dive deep, get to know Rik as well as our other campus leaders and faculty alike. Read Rik's Letters from the Headmaster written bi-weekly to our community. Schedule a time to meet with any of our campus leaders as part of the admission process. We know that providing excellent academics to our boys is only one piece of our role at Princeton Academy. All that we do is premised on bringing out the best in boys: as students, as peers, as young leaders, and as the next generation of men.

As our headmaster says best, "We want our boys to thrive. It is vitally important to create a positive association for learning as early as possible in a boy's developmental journey. Our entire program is based on a philosophy of honoring boyhood, seeing each boy for the unique individual that he is. We believe that boys learn best when they are navigators of their own learning, deductively, when given clear goals and feedback; when they are not afraid of failure; and through relational experiences."

In the spirit of gratitude, we thank you for your interest in Princeton Academy. We invite you to continue learning about Princeton Academy and our deep commitment to the health and wellness of boys. For any interested parents, please join us for a screening of The Mask You Live In on January 17 as well as either of our two winter Admission Open House Seminars on Demystifying Boys' Learning.

Best Regards,
